How do we rebuild a destroyed landscape?

Rebuilding Landscapes takes a closer look at how the raw materials of the archive–images, sounds, and texts–can be revived and arranged by researchers and curators as a way of breathing new life into stories of protest and political revolution.

Together with Kristine Khouri we discuss what it means to “rebuild” a media landscape by tracing her ongoing project “Past Disquiet”, which brings together contributions from scholars, curators and writers who reflect on marginalized histories and undertakings of artists and artists collectives involved in global political movements. Throughout this conversation, we will examine some of the methods and techniques that are best suited for doing this work, for picking up the pieces and reconstructing destroyed exhibitions.

What kind of conditions force us to rebuild landscapes?

These kinds of questions will be discussed in relation to many other important ethical questions about representation, preservation, and the fragility of the archive.

Moderated by Jamil Fiorino-Habib, a researcher, curator, and activist whose work focuses on the intersections of critical theory, cultural studies, and phenomenology.
