Unfolding Layers: Queering Landscapes

𝑊ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑖𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑘 𝑏𝑒𝑡𝑤𝑒𝑒𝑛 𝑞𝑢𝑒𝑒𝑟 𝑏𝑜𝑑𝑖𝑒𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑑𝑠𝑐𝑎𝑝𝑒𝑠?

An online talk moderated by Jamil Fiorino-Habib that looks deeper into the connection between sexual orientation and orientalism.

Inspired by a variety of thinkers, including Sara Ahmed’s work “Queer Phenomenology”, these questions will be discussed in relation to the work of EMIRHAKIN, an arti/signer inquires the Self as an illusion [via text / performance / video-art ] that is armed by a constellation of characters given by others to answer the question: who is EMIRHAKIN? His work on queer masculinities, identification, and spectatorship will provide the roadmap for our conversation as we discover new links that help us draw connections between the oppression of lands and the oppression of bodies, considering landscapes not only in a “natural” sense of the term, but as a positioning of both human and non-human entities.

Some important questions that will be discussed include:

How are marginalized bodies continuously politicized and controlled, disciplined and punished?

What does decolonization have to do with resisting heteronormativity?

And most importantly, how do we create forms of aesthetic resistance and confront the violence that is inflicted on LGBTQIA+ people?
