Angeliki Tzortzakaki

Angeliki Tzortzakaki (she/her) works as a writer, curator, editor, researcher and occasionally performer in Amsterdam, Athens and her birthplace Crete. Her work may appear in diverse formats and temporalities and overall looks at narratives that wish to defy the nature-culture dichotomy. She is also researching agency, and the ability to speak and act for/within oneself as an individual or collective body.

More specifically, she is interested in the mutability of insular landscapes and especially islands; through the 'archipelagic thinking', f(r)ictions, the tectonic movement, ecologies of (self)organizations, friendships, and forms of invisible labour.

Previously, she has been a research fellow in the nomadic project A Natural Oasis? (2018-2020). Consequently, in 2019-2021, she worked as curator for the 19th Biennale Mediterranea - School of Waters in San Marino organised by the Biennale des Jeunes Créateurs de l'Europe et de la Méditerranée (2021). Also in 2021 she was Guest Curator for the Laurel Project Space where she curated the group exhibition Our Seas Are What We Make of Them.

She is currently co-organising the performance programme carried by invisible bodies at de Ruimte in Amsterdam. Also in Amsterdam she collaborates closely with artist Mercedes Azpilicueta to coordinate, produce and assist the research in her long-term projects. She is part of the bi- collective, which has been organizing non-hierarchical artist residencies since 2018 in remote and rural areas promoting idleness and friendships. Since 2019 she is a co-founder and member of the group Scores for Gardens, studying the polyphonic but dissonant relationships and temporalities of ecosystems.

She graduated from the master's Visual Cultures and Curatorial Practices at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan (2018) and obtained her bachelor degree from the Athens University of Economics and Business (2013). She has recently been awarded the curatorial fellowship ARTWORKS by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation in Athens (2021-22).
