Future Framing

Future Framing is a 12-week course offering a jump start for emerging artists, designers and creative professionals finding their way in the Netherlands and beyond. It is all about imagining and rerouting your future. You will embark on a journey to imagine a place for yourself in the cultural field, beyond the limitations of your current situation. What do you need to prepare yourself for an uncertain future?

Through a series of weekly playful exercises and peer exchange, we will explore your deeper motivation and the face the challenges that we all face in the future of our field. Working with a wide range of artistic and embodied techniques, we aim to tap into the deeper layers of your dreams and desires. We will sit with the future, cook up the future, plant seeds for the future and tell tales of the future.

We cover a wide range of practical skills that you will need, from storytelling, mapping, visualization, submitting funding applications, making a budget and building your online visibility. How to promote your work and find your way in the networks and platforms that are relevant to your practice?

You are not alone in your questions about the future. Join us to find inspiration in sharing dreams and ideas, and learning how to harness the power of a community to support each other in this path of discovery.

WHO IS THIS FOR?

• emerging artists, designers, or performing artists who are finding their way in the Netherlands, especially from NON-EU background
• who don't have a local support structure
• and would like to meet people from different disciplines, cultural backgrounds, and walks of life
• are wondering what to do after graduation from art academy, or are in early or mid career phase in their development
• willing to engage with other artists going through similar challenges
• open to participate in group exercises and take the time to reflect on your practice
• can commit to weekly attendance on Wednesdays for 12 weeks
• are ready to accept the challenge of presenting your work in public

We work with a mix of KABK students (Royal Academy in the Hague), mid career artists, and artists in exile who are rerouting their practice in a new context.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

Every week, you will have a series of exercises to prepare (2-4 hours per week), using different visualization, writing, storytelling, cooking and material techniques.

On Wednesdays, we will gather in the Hague to share our findings, give and receive feedback, engage in group exercises. Every week there will be informative lectures and guest speakers who share their knowledge and experience. The course is led and organized by Salwa's co-founder, Shailoh Phillips (artist, researcher and educator).

COURSE AIMS

• identifying your core values, interests and tapping into your WHY? (your deeper motivation)
• aligning long-term ambitions and practical next steps towards achieving your own aims and goals
• demystify the art world and 'creative industries', providing missing infrastructure, network and information, particularly for NON-EU makers entering the cultural sector in the Netherlands
• debunking the myth of individual artists, looking at what it really takes to create a sustainable practice, including self-organization, collectives, networks, galleries, and platforms
• cultivating a sense of community, support, mutual care and exchange for emergent artists, and exploring possibilities of forming
• finding encouragement in interdisciplinary peer exchange and a context to nourish each other's practice
• critically examining the limiting beliefs, stereotypes, fears and negative stories that hold us back
• practicing storytelling and presentation techniques to effectively be able to share your work with the world: text, live presentation, online presence and portfolio
• to gain a reality check for the financial and organizational side of a creative practice
• empowering artists and designers to be prepared to survive and thrive, by equipped with skills and to present their work and find funding opportunities

Ultimately, we hope after these 12 weeks, you will be better equipped to be able to face the future and all of its uncertainty with resilience, support and a sense of direction. While doing so, we will have fun together and you get to meet interesting people who share many of the same questions.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION
The course entails 11 live peer group sessions in the Hague, with max 22 participants, as well as access to video lectures and weekly exercises, peer feedback and two personal 30 minute coaching sessions

COSTS

The costs of this course are are a sliding scale between €165 - €550, depending on your financial situation.
This can be paid in monthly installments and we can provide you with an invoice. This training can be deducted as a business expense if you are registered as an entrepreneur (we will explain how to do this in the course).

سنغطي مجموعة واسعة من المهارات العملية التي ستحتاج إليها، من سرد القصص ورسم خرائط المستقبل والتصور وتقديم طلبات التمويل ووضع الميزانية وبناء ظهورك على الإنترنت. كيف تروج لعملك وتجد طريقك في الشبكات والمنصات ذات الصلة بممارستك؟

لست وحدك في أسئلتك عن المستقبل. انضم إلينا لتجد مصدر إلهام في مشاركة الأحلام والأفكار، وتعلم كيفية تسخير قوة المجتمع لدعم بعضنا البعض في طريق الاكتشاف هذا.

الفنانون أو المصممون أو فناني الأداء الناشئون الذين يجدون طريقهم في هولندا، وخاصة من خارج الاتحاد - الأوروبي

• على استعداد للتعامل مع فنانين آخرين يمرون بتحديات مماثلة

• منفتح للمشاركة في تمارين جماعية وخذ الوقت الكافي للتفكير في ممارساتك

• من يمكنه الالتزام بالحضور الأسبوعي في أيام الأربعاء لمدة 12 أسبوعًا

نحن نعمل مع مزيج من طلاب KABK (الأكاديمية الملكية في لاهاي)، والفنانين في منتصف حياتهم المهنية، والفنانين في المهجر الذين يعيدون توجيه ممارساتهم في سياق جديد.

ما هو المتوقع؟

كل أسبوع، سيكون لديك سلسلة من التمارين للتحضير (2-4 ساعات في الأسبوع) ، باستخدام تقنيات التخيل والكتابة ورواية القصص والطهي والمواد المختلفة.

في أيام الأربعاء، سوف نجتمع في لاهاي لتبادل النتائج التي توصلنا إليها ، وإعطاء الملاحظات وتلقيها، والمشاركة في تمارين جماعية. كل أسبوع ستكون هناك محاضرات إعلامية ومتحدثون ضيوف يشاركونهم معارفهم وخبراتهم. يقود الدورة وينظمها الشريكة المؤسسة لسلوى، شيلوه فيليبس (فنانة ، باحثة ومعلمة).

أهداف الدورة

• تحديد قيمك الأساسية واهتماماتك والغوص في تساؤلاتك (دافعك الأعمق)

• موائمة طموحاتك طويلة المدى والخطوات العملية التالية نحو تحقيق أهدافك

إزالة الغموض عن عالم الفن و "الصناعات الإبداعية"، وتوفير الدعم والشبكات والمعلومات التي يحتاجونها، خاصة - بالنسبة للصانعين من خارج الاتحاد الأوروبي الذين يدخلون القطاع الثقافي في هولندا

كشف خرافات الفنانين المنفردين بأنفسهم، التطلع الى ما قد يكون مطلوبا لتكوين ممارسات مستدامة، كضبط - النفس، تكوين الجماعات، تكوين المعارف، تنظيم المعارض ومنصات لعرض الاعمال

• تنمية روح التعاون والدعم والرعاية المتبادلة وتبادل الأفكار بين الفنانين الناشئين واستكشاف إمكانيات جديدة

• التشجيع على تبادل الشركاء لزيادة المعرفة المتبادلة فيما بيننا

• الاطلاع على المعتقدات المقيدة والصور النمطية والمخاوف والقصص السلبية التي تعيقنا

• التدرب على تقنيات سرد القصص وتقنيات العرض والتقديم لتكون قادرًا على مشاركة عملك مع العالم بشكل فعال سواء كان نصاً أو عرض حي أو التواجد المباشر على الإنترنت وعرض ابرز الاعمال

• لاكتساب فحص دقيق للجانب المالي والتنظيمي للممارسة الإبداعية

• تمكين الفنانين والمصممين ليكونوا مستعدين للاستقرار والازدهار، من خلال تزويدهم بالمهارات وتقديم أعمالهم وإيجاد فرص التمويل

في النهاية ، نأمل بعد هذه الأسابيع الـ 12، أن تكون مستعدًا بشكل أفضل لتكون قادرًا على مواجهة المستقبل وكل حالة اضطراب تصيبك به من خلال المرونة والدعم و الاطلاع على الطريق الصحيح. أثناء ذلك، سنستمتع معًا وستلتقي بأشخاص مثيرين للاهتمام يشاركونك العديد من الأسئلة نفسها.
